I'm a zombie traditionalist in that I think zombies must be reanimated dead not just whacked out dudes with a bad cold, but it seems I'm in the minority on that subject. It ain't a zombie if it ain't dead in my opinion.

Here we have a couple shirts for folks involved in the debate over fast or slow zombies.

This is another shirt for the eco-zombies among us. It ain't easy being green…and undead.

Finally, we have the obligatory, "don't tase me bro" shirt. Not really about zombies per say, but is fun nonetheless.
What is a zombie walk? Wikipedia explains:

A zombie walk (also known as a zombie mob, zombie march, zombie horde or zombie lurch) is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space.

ZombieWalk.com is set up as a disscussion forum, broken into sections by state and country. It also has sections with advice for zombies preparing to participate in a walk, photo galleries, movie disscussion, and general zombie blabber. Hmmm, probably a lot of groaning and moaning in that last group. Overall, the site is well organized and very functional which should make finding the information you want to know a lot easier. Good job.

I was slack and missed one we had in my local area because I failed to check the site. A mistake I don't intend to make again.

Some folks really go all out. I'd say it would be worth attending a walk, even if you didn't want to get zombiefied, just to watch the zombies milling about. For those of you will active imaginations, you can pretend it is an actual outbreak! Muhahahaha! Just don't get bitten!

Here is a clip from YouTube of a past zombie walk:

I took part in a group conversation, some years back, about some some cannibal that was in the news at the time. Eventually, someone asked about what human tastes like. The obligatory "tastes like chicken" joke came up but one lady gave us pause when she objected to a claim someone made that humans taste like pork. It wasn't so much what she said, but how she said it. She gave off the impression that she had actually tried some cooked human at some point! We all laughed nervously and moved to a new topic.

Do you has a flavor?

I'm working on making this one into an apron. Heh heh. Perfect for the cook of the house.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=85&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope each of you has a great holiday and gets to enjoy a good meal and spending time with friends and family.

After eating all that food, I suspect that many of us will turn into Thanksgiving zombies. Groaning, and moving slowly about with distended bellies. Heh heh. These zombies are safe however, they have already had their fill of turkey, taters, and whatever else happend to have been on the menu.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

So far, at least in the trailers I have seen, they don't give away too much. This is good. What they have shown creates a sense of mystery and horror.

Too often movie trailers give away too much. A film that had a bad trailer was Swim Fan. The trailer literally showed every freakin' plot point all the way up to the climax. Hey fellas, there is no reason for anyone to see your movie since I have already seen the cliff notes version - including the end!

The trailers for the original Matrix movie are examples of how this should be done. They show you some interesting action, some dialogue that peeks your interest, but still do not reveal the story. You need to see the movie to get that..."No one can be told what the Matrix is." They gave you just enough to start guessing.

After watching the trailer for The Mist I have lots of questions I want answered: What is the mist? What is killing the people? Is the mist alive? Is it supernatural? Will the people survive? See, I now have questions in the back of my head that are hungry for answers. That is a great way to get folks, folks like me anyway, to go see a movie.

With luck, The Mist will live up to expectations and be an exciting ride.

It opens everywhere November 21st!

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=77&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Even More Shirts!!!! - Be Carbon Neutral...Be A Zombie T-Shirt

The new shirt continues the eco-zombie theme. (Eco-Zombie - hmmm, I may have just coined a term. Heh.)

Some in the eco movement think that humans tend to suck. If you fall into that camp then zombification may be for you! Sure, you will emit some methane and other gasses as you decay, but it is as carbon neutral as folks can get. Zombies don't drive cars, eat processed food or use electricity. Become a zombie and save the world!

Do your part for the environment! Cast off this mortal coil and join the armies of the undead!

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=74&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Zombie Attack at Hierakonpolis

A friend sent me a link to this interesting article:

From the very beginning of Predynastic research, Sir W.M. Flinders Petrie reported several headless, but seemingly intact, burials during his famous excavations at Naqada in 1895. Further excavations at Gerzeh and other sites revealed more of these curious burials, but no satisfactory explanation could be proposed at the time.

Hmmm, evidence of a ancient zombie outbreak? Possibly. The archeological team has decided to not take any chances.

Little is known about how long the virus can lay dormant, thus it is possible that another outbreak could occur at any time--given its history, especially at Hierakonpolis. With this potential in mind, we asked Tom Flanigan, zombie eradication expert for the U.S. Forestry Service, to draw up a contingency plan for us--see his report below. However, we stress that nothing amiss has been observed during any of our recent excavations (though the number of missing heads is a bit curious).

Techniques utilizing equipment the archeological team would have on had on hand are covered.

Best line:

It is a fan site with synopsis info, crew summaries and trivia about the great classic zombie horror films. I love the trivia section as I always seem to learn something new. The first thing that popped out at me is how good the site looks. Excellent design work!

It looks like it is growing so be sure to check it out from time to time to see what all turns up.

I forgive them for including 28 Days Later in their list of zombie movies. I'm a zombie traditionalist in that I think zombies must be reanimated dead not just whacked out dudes with a bad cold, but it seems I'm in the minority on that subject.
Your job is to show a typical day in a world where the dead rule. Don't simply create a zombie or vampire - show them doing something, like reclining in their coffin waterbed, enjoying a family picnic in the cemetery, or shopping for brains at the local supermarket. You can also show products that would be popular with the life-challenged, like vulture repellant or sun block SPF 5000.

Lots of undead goodness to be seen.

The Outbreak Weaponary section is my favorite. It contains reviews of various weapon types, their damage rating, availability and list of films that show each weapon in action.

Problems include:

Sluggish feel to your characters movement.

Level design like what you might expect of a game from the mid 1990s (was actually released Oct. 2005)

Poor textures. I had all settings to max quality and they still looked very low resolution.

Zombies seem too hard to kill and also seem too strong. I saw one zombie even smash through a stone wall!

Apparently, the zombies don't bite when they attack, so there is no fear of turning. Just pop a bottle of med pills and everything is fine.

This game might have been cool some years ago, but the technology and style of the game is very dated. The only thing I did like was the rag doll physics and the ease with which zombie limbs could be severed.

This is not a complete review as game play was so unsatisfying that I stopped playing after about 3 level load points. I originally thought they stopped making the game because of licensing reasons, but now I suspect that it was simply because the game really sucks.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=57&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Zombies as Political Issue

As we have seen in an earlier post - U.S. officials are taking the zombie threat seriously. Now it seems some of our friends in Australia want to hear from their officials about the zombie threat.

Unfortunately, is seems that the zombie threat is not a popular issue among the candidates taking part in the upcoming election.

Nearly one whole week has passed and I have yet to hear a single candidate from any party say word one about the pressing, clawing, biting issue of the Undead.

It sounds like this fella has some good ideas.

Fridge magnets and national security hotlines? Bah! I ask you instead, where is my $100,000 tax-free grant for zombie-proofing the chateau? That moat's not going to dig itself, Johnny. And your gun laws don't make home defence against ol' Zed any easier you know.

So, HungryZombies.com shirts and stuff will be arriving very soon!

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=52&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Upside of Z-Day #2

I won't have to work on web dev projects that suck donkey balls.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=55&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Projects By Committee Suck Donkey Balls

I'm a full time web developer/graphic artist. It is usually a nice job. I get to deal with good people and I enjoy the creative process. However, some projects are sent straight from hell to torment me for ages. If I was freelance I could tell these folks to stuff it and move on, but I'm not a freelancer and thus must work on the projects that come in.

Here is a bit of advice for folks getting into web development. (Actually, I'm sure this advice is applicable for folks in almost any field.) Make sure any project you accept has a single clearly defined leader/decision maker. In my experience, projects by committee suck donkey balls. The project will remain an amorphous blob, never taking shape…always shifting. It will become an albatross around your neck, consuming more time and resources than it is worth.

I write this today because I'm in that very situation. I am in the middle of a project that never seems to move forward, but consumes ever larger amounts of my time. There must have been hundreds of content changes by now and an untold number of graphic and layout changes because there are at least 8 people making decisions.

Sometimes I think a zombie outbreak would be welcome as it would free me from this hellish project.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=51&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Upside of Z-Day #1

Most books and films about a zombie apocalypse focus on the negatives. Getting eaten, fighting off undead family members, collapse of infrastructure, etc… It is a rare thing to hear about the positive aspects of a global zombie nightmare.

This is an obviously under explored area of thought.

I have always thought it best to concentrate on the positive rather than the negative. (Although, I may not actually achieve this goal in everyday practice). So, I'm starting a new series of posts pointing out these positive aspects so that we might count our blessings when everything else has been destroyed by the zombie apocalypse.

These things are actually pretty good! All of the testers, myself included, expected these to taste horrible, but to our surprise they were not bad. Not super yummy, but not bad. A fact all the more surprising when considering the brick like feel and weight of the vacuum sealed packs. I didn’t expect to like any of them.

We tested the Datrex 2400 Calorie Food Bars, the Mainstay 3600 Emergency Ration bars, and the 2400 Calorie ER Bar.

The Datrex ration was the overall favorite in terms of flavor, texture, and packaging. However, one tester hated it because of the coconut flavoring so if you don‘t like coconut then this one is not for you. Everyone else was generally pleased. One of our favorite features was that each bar in the pack was individually wrapped so as to keep the rest from going stale as you eat them over 3 days.

The Mainstay was the second favorite. The lemon flavor was pleasant and not too strong. The bars are also sectioned so it is easy to grab a single portion. The texture was OK - a bit coarse, but not unpleasant.

The ER Bar was the least favorite. The lemon flavor was similar to the Mainstay bar, but was not as strong. Most folks didn’t like the texture as well as the other bars, but one thought it tasted more substantial and as a result might make him feel more full after eating a portion. Another thing we didn’t like was the fact the bar was not pre-sectioned. It is just one big block that required a fair amount of effort to break into smaller pieces. Heh. Some went flying about the room in the process. Still, even with these issues, it was certainly edible.

Sample 1: Mainstay Bar, Sample 2: ER Bar, Sample 3: Datrex Bars

Overall we were quite pleased. We agreed, save for that fellow that hates coconut, that it would probably be best to buy a mix of the various bars so as to have some variety. A little variety can go along way if you are forced to eat ration bars every meal.

Thanks to my co-workers that were kind enough to take part in this test.

Update: Even if you choose not to eat these, they still could save your life. An unopened pack is pretty solid and could be used to deliver a swift whack to the head of a hungry zombie while shouting lines like "Eat this!"

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=47&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
For Folks Planning Halloween Zombie Parties

If you are going to have a zombie party then you may want to check out some of these items from Anatomical.com under the Halloween section.

Well folks it is that time of year again - time to decorate the house will all sorts of gore and scare the crap out of trick or treaters. Muhahahaha!

However, the question remains - Will I be too lazy to do anything? Heh.

The plan is to watch some classic horror movies, visit "haunted" attractions and build a kickin' new fog chiller to replace the cheap one I put together a couple years back.

Today I have done so with my discovery of the group Rotersand - specifically the album 1023.

I was listening to some online radio stations while doing some work today and my ears perked up when the track "I Cry" came on. I liked it so much I immediately went out and picked up a copy of the full album. Wow, it was not a disappointment. Rotersand could be classified as future pop, EBM or even industrial (I'm still learning all the classifications) so it has an electronic feel, but also includes some classic instruments. Most tracks have a great driving beat while some are slower, more moody, to help even things out.

Online radio has been both a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that I have found a whole new world of music I didn't even know existed just a few years ago. A curse in that I now have a list of at least 50 CDs I want to buy. Ooof, I may need a better paying job too keep up with my purchases.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=38&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Site Review: ZombieWorldNews.com

I actually am fairly new to zombie stuff on the net, but I have to stay that ZombieWorldNews.com is, so far, one of my favorite sites.

ZombieWorldNews.com is a fictitious news site tracking a worldwide Zombie plague in 'real time'. Through editorials and reader reports we are exploring the social, political and economical impact such an event would have on humankind.

It is written as a news site that covers zombie outbreaks around the world. Imagine waking up and reading reports of undead walking the Earth. ZombieWorldNews.com brings us a slice of that world.

So, in order to make sure this does not happen again, I am preparing a couple shirts with color tables and sample images. This way I can see how the colors are shifted in the manufacturing process and have a better idea of what to expect.

I aim to test these food rations for myself and write a review. In an earlier post I linked to an article from Popular Mechanics where they did a small taste test of these products. While interesting, it didn’t really help me decide which survival ration would be best for me. So, I figured I had best try them myself before committing to buying a whole case.

I also indend to write a review for the book as well, but I can't say when that will ready.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=30&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Resident Evil: Extinction - Opening This Weekend in US Theaters

This is a good weekend for fans of the Resident Evil movies and games as the new movie Resident Evil: Extinction is opening today. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice an seems ready to clobber anyone or anything that pisses her off. Of course, it is hard to go wrong with a combination of attractive ladies with firearms clobbering zombies and knuckleheads.

"Alice, now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera and L.J., along with new survivors Claire, K-Mart and Nurse Betty to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead...and to seek justice."

Unfortunately, I don’t go the cinema much anymore. I prefer to enjoy films in my home theater without having to worry about all the mess at the movie theaters. So, I probably won’t have review for you anytime soon.

I really enjoyed the first and second in the series, but the second was the weaker out of the two. It felt like two different movies were required to occupy the same space.

So far, this one looks like it will be pretty good.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=28&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Experts Confirm That Meteorite Crashed Into Peru,

…but Question Claims That It Sickened People. Sounds like they are not sure what made the folks sick, but they are fairly cartain it wasn't the meteorite.

"…the meteorite's muddy crater boiled for maybe 10 minutes from the heat and could have given off a vapor that sickened people, and scientists were taking water samples."

More than 600 villagers fell ill, the Peruvian radio network RPP reported Tuesday.

…gases emanating from the crater caused nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and stomach pain - so much so that authorities were considering calling a state of emergency. The newspaper La Republica reported that seven policemen became ill and were taken to a hospital."

Now might be a good time to review your emergency plans and take inventory of your supplies.

Zombies! Zombies! - New Zombie Movie

<img height="252" alt="Zombies! Zombies! is new zombie movie coming out in October. From the poster one might assume it is just a tits and ass movie, but the trailer makes it look like a lot of zombie fun.

"A drug experiment gone wrong produces a league of blood-thirsty zombies. It is up to a small band of exotic dancers trapped in a gentlemans club to fight back. Together they must rely on their wits and skills to survive the night, and pray that they don't become victims of the flesh-eating zombies!"

Hard to go wrong with a combination of chicks, guns, chain saws and zombies. Hmm… If it is the apocalypse, then being surrounded by attractive mostly naked ladies at the end is a pretty good way to go in my book. Heh heh.

So far the official site just has a poster and a link to buy tickets, but they do have a decent MySpace.com page with lots of pictures and a trailer.

It seems to be slated to show in only one theater and then on to DVD. This looks like it will be worth a look when it comes out.

It covers what supplies to have, what to do when power fails, suggested survival gear, and many other things to do in preparation and during a disaster. It is a fairly quick read and is broken into sections so it should be easy to find what interests you.

I personally liked the printable checklists for survival kits for car, home, etc. They make great starting points for folks, but most will end up personalizing them depending on their needs. A couple items that never seem to be on these lists, but I think are essential for kits - especially for car kits - A hat and sunscreen! If you have to hoof it several miles in the sun then a broad brim hat and sunscreen can save you a lot of pain and damage.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=13&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Day of the Dead - new film version in post production

Steve Miner, director of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, is bringing us a new version of Day of the Dead. However, it is very different from the original and does not pick up where the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead left off. For example - Ving Rhames returns, but as a different person.

From the trailer, it appears to be a zombie outbreak caused by some sort of secret research project. Hmmm, not so cool. They also appear to be fast zombies - not my favorite. On the up side, it seems like it might be fairly good in terms of special effects and acting. Overall it looks like fun. I will post the release date as soon as I find one.

Well, the folks at Popular Mechanics did a small taste test for us to help answer that question! They tested the ER Bar, the Datrex White Ration, and the Mainstay ration bars.

The results are interesting, but I'm still going to order some and conduct my own taste test before buying a case of the stuff.

The favorite turned out to be the Mainstay bars, but they may not be for everyone. Click here to read the piece at Popular Mechanics for more information. It is short but interesting.

I will post my personal reviews of these products as soon as I get to test them myself.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=8&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
WORST CASE SCENARIO - Movie in Development

Worst Case Scenario is the name of a Dutch zombie movie currently in development. I don’t think they have all the money lined up yet for a full production, but they have made some amazing clips that are well worth a look.

The visuals and audio in the clips create a near perfect mood and look great. This has the potential to become one of the all time classic zombie films if completed. It also appears to be an addition to the aquatic Nazi zombie sub-genre.

I’m sure most zombie aficionados’ already know about this movie, but I think it deserves special mention. Please visit http://www.gorehoundinc.com/ and check this project out.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=7&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
HungryZombies.com has moved to a new host!

HungryZombies.com is now at a new host. My last host was so slow that pages would time out while loading. So far so good. The new host is ninja fast compared to the last and seems to have a good support staff. Hopefully, now that things are running more smoothly, I will be able to make more posts.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=5&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Where to Shop During a Zombie Outbreak

Where should one go in the event of a zombie outbreak to obtain supplies? Of course, it is best to have a stockpile of food and water ahead of a time for any disaster - zombie related or otherwise. But, should you be caught in an emergency where should you go?

Most people will probably head to the local grocery or super Wal-Mart. In my opinion, this popularity makes them a bad choice for the smart zombie holocaust shopper in search of extra food and supplies. People can be dangerous in lawless conditions and especially dangerous in zombie outbreak situations.

A possible alternative would be your local drug store. Most drug stores now contain a fair amount of shelf stable food that requires no refrigeration, water, batteries, flashlights, medical supplies, etc….

Another choice might be the discount shops like Dollar General or Family Dollar. They also carry a fair amount of food and various other supplies. They even have tools!

Take the time to notice all the products these businesses stock the next time you are out. It just might save your life if we should ever have to face a zombie outbreak.

<trackback:ping>http://hungryzombies.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=4&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
Welcome to HungryZombies.com

Hello and welcome!
